Rebecca Samuel Dali comes from the Northeast of Nigeria, near Cameroon. Rebecca finished a Master’s thesis as well as a doctoral thesis with Global Scholar’s Wendy Helleman. In both she dealt with the effect of violence on women, children and the family in the context of ethnic unrest/riots.
Rebecca successfully defended the doctoral thesis, The Plight of Women in Violent Conflict in Northern Nigeria 1980-2008: An Ethical Analysis, in the fall of 2012 at the University of Jos. After this, she taught at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria just outside Jos, as well as the Brethren’s Kulp Bible College.
She initiated work with vulnerable women and families, the NGO Center for Caring, Empowerment and Peace Initiative (CCEPI) as a vehicle of aid. In August 2017, she and her organization were recognized by the de Mello Foundation, and received the Sergio Vieira de Mello United Nations Humanitarian Award.
Rebecca continues to write the stories of the women encountered, to give them voice, as she and her husband were recently appointed Fellows at the Young Centre for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College (PA).
