Navigating the pluralistic university with its competing worldviews can be a challenge for Christian academics, especially in the sciences where materialism, empiricism, and logical positivism are the dominate perspectives.
On Monday, 4 November 2024 at 1830 UTC, Dr. James Tour, T. T. and W. F. Chao Professor of Chemistry, Professor of Computer Science, and Professor of Materials Science and NanoEngineering at Rice University, will answer questions on ways Christian academics can survive in an academic career AND thrive. In doing so, they can impact not only their field of research with the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ but also many of their colleagues and students with whom they come in contact. Based on 30+ years of experience as a professor of chemistry, Dr. Tour will share his insights, not just for scientists but for all faculties, by focusing on how he dealt with the topic of the origin of first cells.
Dr. Tour’s scientific research spans across many areas of nanotechnology, from medicine to nanomachines and new materials. He has founded more than 10 companies based upon his research, two of those now public companies. He has over 700 research publications and over 140 patent families, with an h-index = 150 and total citations of ~110,000.
