3rd Party Webinar: A Christian Field Guide to Technology for Engineers and Designers – Hosted by Global Scholars Canada – Friday, 10 February 2023 at 0000 UTC (1900 EST)

Does faith have anything to do with fluid dynamics? Do beliefs have anything to do with blueprints? This talk will draw on sections of a new book titled A Christian Field Guide to Technology for Engineers and Designers to explore responsible technology and the implications for Christian engineers and others involved in various technical disciplines.

On Friday, 10 February 2023 at 0000 UTC (1900 EST), Global Scholars – Canada will host a webinar with Dr Derek Schuurmann and Dr Johnathan VanderSteen to discuss these implications and how to engage with technology as Christian academics.

Dr Schuurman studied electrical engineering at the University of Waterloo and worked for several years as an engineer designing embedded systems. He completed a Ph.D. in Engineering at McMaster University and is currently a professor of computer science at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is author of the book Shaping a Digital World and co-author of the newly-released book, A Christian Field Guide to Technology for Engineers and Designers, both published by InterVarsity Academic Press.

Dr. VanderSteen grew up as a child of missionary parents in Nigeria. He earned a PhD from Queen’s University in Design and Engineering Education, has worked as both an academic and as a design engineer.  Jonathan is now a professor of engineering at Conestoga College. He attends a progressive community church called Manna with his family in Guelph, Ontario.
